If you are into snorkeling, there are interesting coral reefs in Bali, colorful fish and even sunken ships. The most famous place for diving is Amed (Eastern coast of Bali) and a small island near Bali called Nusa Penida. You can go to one of these places for a few days, or you can take a day excursion, so you will get a transfer from the hotel to the places of diving, transported around by a speed boat. If you come to Bali just for a while, then this is the best option to save your time.

Snorkeling on the reef spots of Sanur and Nusa Dua:

Snorkeling on the reef is also in Sanur and Nusa Dua. You will start the boat journey from Sanur port heading to study the reef spots. You will be supplied with a mask and fins. The exact place of diving depends on the weather conditions. The best visibility is early in the morning, so the start is at about 8-8:30 am. Snorkeling trip lasts for about 2-3 hours.

Snorkeling on the East coast, Padang Bai, Amed and the wreck in Tulamben

You will be transferred by a boat from Sanur, further along the East coast of Bali. You will stop at Padang Bay, Amed and Tulamben. Amed is considered to be the diving Mecca of Bali, here you will explore an amusing underwater world. Amed is also popular among those who swim with flippers and mask. In Tulamben there is a sunken Japanese warship, and it is usually visited by lots of fish (see the article about Tulamben here). The trip starts in the morning, coming back after 15:00 – 16:00 pm. The snorkeling equipment is included in the price of the trip.

Snorkeling with the manta rays at Nusa Penida

There is a small island of Nusa Penida next to Bali which is famous for its dive spots. One of the most interesting sites is manta point, where huge manta rays swim. There are also other dive spots on Nusa Penida, where you can see the corals and the fish. The journey from Bali to Nusa Penida by a speedboat takes about 40-60 minutes. The trip starts in the morning, coming back after 15:00 – 16:00 pm.

?Where is it better to dive with a mask:

In Bali you can dive with masks even in the tourist areas of Nusa Dua and Sanur. However, more interesting underwater world is on the East coast in Amed, as well as on neighboring Bali Islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and the Gili Islands. But in order to dive there you must either go there for an overnight stay or to purchase a tour boat that will take you to Bali and bring back the same day.

?What is an approximate rental price for fins and masks:
If you buy a tour trip, the equipment for snorkeling is included in the price. In other places, the rental payment is from 50,000 to 100,000 rupees per set.

 

 

 

Diving in Bali

 

There is a possibility to dive for certified divers and for those who just want to try diving. There are also PADI courses. Maximum depth is about 40 m.

At your choice, you can see a sunken ship, coral reefs and fish, or dive with manta rays.

For beginners diving takes place at a depth of 10 meters, the duration of one dive is 30-50 minutes.

Two neighboring islands are Nusa Penida and Lemongan – the most interesting for diving in Bali.

If you have doubts, what to choose, it is better to go here. Here you can find the most diverse underwater world, comparing to the east coast of Bali itself. It takes about an hour by a speed boat to get to Nusa Penida and Lembongan.
